Havelock Island's water stays warm year-round — a genuine advantage over destinations with a narrow diving season — but "warm enough to dive" and "the best time to dive" are two different questions, and the gap between them matters if manta rays or peak visibility are part of your plan.
If manta rays are your priority: November to February. Dixon's Pinnacle's cleaning station sees its best manta ray odds in this window. Outside these months, sightings become less predictable, though the site remains worth diving regardless for its coral topography and other marine life.
Water temperature: consistently warm, year-round. Havelock's water holds between 27-30°C across the year, which is one reason it's considered one of the calmer, more beginner-friendly certification destinations globally — you're not fighting cold-water gear or seasonal temperature swings the way you might in many other dive destinations.
Visibility and conditions: variable October to May. Sea conditions at sites like Dixon's Pinnacle range from calm in peak season to more variable across the broader October-May window. If flat, calm water and maximum visibility matter more to you than a specific animal encounter, ask your dive center which weeks within that window have been running clearest recently — conditions shift enough year to year that a real-time local read beats a generic seasonal calendar.
Monsoon consideration. Like most of India's east coast, the Andamans see a monsoon season that can affect boat access and visibility. Planning around the broader October-May window sidesteps most of this risk.
Putting it together: if manta rays are the goal, November-February is your target window. If you're diving primarily for the reef and topography without a specific wildlife priority, the wider October-May window works well, with water temperature never really a limiting factor either way.
