Paragliding in Pokhara is entirely weather-dependent, which means the question "when should I go" isn't a minor planning detail — it's the difference between flying on your first attempt and rebooking three times.
The two good seasons
Pokhara has two reliable windows for flying: October to November, right after monsoon clears the air, and March to April, before the pre-monsoon haze builds up. Both give you the clearest views of the Annapurna range and the most predictable flying conditions. If your trip dates are flexible at all, build your Pokhara stop around one of these windows rather than the other way around.
What to avoid
June through September is monsoon season, and flights are frequently cancelled or rescheduled during this stretch — not because it's unsafe to try, but because operators simply won't fly in poor visibility or unstable wind. December and January can also bring haze that dulls the mountain views even on days when flights technically go ahead. Neither season makes paragliding impossible, but both increase your odds of a grounded flight or a flight without much of a view — which, for an activity where the entire point is the view, matters.
Morning vs. midday flights
Most licensed operators run three daily slots — roughly 10:30, 12:00 and 14:00 — and the difference between them is bigger than people expect:
- Morning (10:30): Calmer air, gentler thermals, a smoother and more predictable ride. This is the better choice if you're nervous about the activity, travelling with someone who prefers a gentle experience, or simply want the clearest possible photos before afternoon haze builds.
- Midday (12:00-14:00): Stronger thermals mean more lift, longer airtime, and the option for more dynamic flying (spirals, longer glides) if your pilot offers it and you want it.
Neither slot is objectively "better" — it depends on what kind of experience you're after. If you're booking as a couple or family with mixed comfort levels, the morning slot is the safer default.
Booking timing
October is Pokhara's busiest month for exactly the reasons above — good weather draws the crowds. If you're travelling in peak season, reserve at least a day or two ahead rather than assuming you can walk up and fly same-day.
